Role: Information Architecture / Web Developer
Shepherd’s Heart International — originally named Bread of New Life Ministries — had an existing site that did not adequately describe the range of services, activities, and public outreach the organization provides.
Additionally, the previous site was not optimized for SEO, was not responsive, and was not user-friendly for its senior-aged demographic (a target audience), many of who had difficulty locating the “donate” button on the site.
After conducting a content inventory of the previous site, I decided that the site required a redesign from the ground up, and recommended using WordPress as a CMS so that the organization’s staff could update the site themselves, with the aid of developers.
In order to determine the necessary content and site structure, I spent six weeks in the discovery and information architecture phase, established the target audience, wrote user scenarios, compiled a competitive analysis, designed wire frames, designed a site map, created flowcharts and design mockups, and conducted prototyping.
When it came time to refine the site’s design, I worked with a designer, and based on his final mock ups, I coded a custom WordPress theme from scratch.
